OUR HISTORY
The One-Stop Location Service to International Film Producers
Asian Film Location Services (Pvt) Ltd., was established by Chandran Rutnam in 1979. It was the first institution in Asia to provide a one-stop location service to international film producers. In 1980, Chandran invited Asoka Perera to be his partner.
The Company (AFLS) has serviced films throughout Asia, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, India, Seychelles, Philippines and the Maldive Islands. Today, in addition to films, the company provides support services to local and foreign Commercial and Documentary industries.

Chandran has produced several local films and participated in the co-production of many international films. The company has had the pleasure of working with all the major studios and numerous independent producers. Producer Director
Chandran is a writer producer director in his own right and has directed three local films;
"Adara Kathawa," which was Sri Lanka's official entry to the International Film Festival of India and the Cairo Film Festival, "Witness to a Killing," which won a Sarasaviya Award and represented Sri Lanka at the International Tokyo Film Festival and the love story, "Promise."

In 2018 Chandran produced and directed his International release, According To Matthew, A Taprobane Pictures Production In Association With Asian Film Location Services and Ceylon Theaters Limited.
In 2013 Chandran produced and directed his first International release, directing Ben Kingsley in A Common Man.
In 2009 Chandran produced and directed his adapted screenplay from Nihal De Silvas bestseller "The Road from Elephant Pass" which won the Gratien Prize for the best English language novel of the year 2003.

In February of 2007, Chandran was presented with the Special Presidential Award for his contribution to the Sri Lankan film industry. In 2019 at The Asean International Film Festival (Aiffa 2019) held in Kuching, Chandran was honored for his many contributions to the Malaysian and Sarawak film industry throughout the years. Chandran has traveled the world, working and maintaining contacts and friendships with international film producers, directors, artists and technicians.

2019 ASEAN INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL & AWARDS Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia
At this year's Asean International Film Festival (Aiffa 2019) held in Kuching last week, Chandran Rutnam, of Asian Film Location Services, was honored for his many contributions to the Malaysian and Sarawak film industry throughout the years - a period spanning over 35 years of film and television. Chandran Rutnam has also led the Malaysian delegation to the Cannes Film Festival.

'A Common Man' won big at the Madrid Film International Festival. The film, shot entirely in Sri Lanka with Asian Film Location Services, won
Best Director, Best Actor and Best Picture at the film festival on July 7th.
The movie stars actor Sir Ben Kingsley and Ben Cross.
The Madrid International Film Festival has, as its objective, the promotion of cinematographic art by presenting films of quality and entertainment.
The Madrid Festival is an annual event based in the city of Madrid in Spain, and draws in thousands of people from around the world.
The film has also won a bronze medal at the 'New York Festivals' International Television and Film Awards.
A Common Man is a production of Asia Digital Entertainment.

Bollywood film 'Victory' aimed at Cricket-mad South Asia
Colombo, Bollywood film "Victory", based on cricket and featuring many cricketing greats, is expected to do well in South Asia where the game is a passion and an obsession, says Sri Lankan producer Chandran Rutnam, who handled the Colombo leg of the shooting and is in-charge of marketing of the movie in Sri Lanka, told fans: "We hope to get the main market of the South Asian region, where cricket is a passion, obsession and a religion. "He said the film would be released all over the world with English subtitles. The film had its grand global premiere in Colombo Friday, a day before the second one-day encounter between the visiting Indian and host Sri Lankan cricket teams.
